Portage Scenic Float

Enjoy a breathtaking and relaxing float down Portage Creek.  Float by Hanging Glaciers, and wildlife, and sit back on this mellow Class I Scenic float.  There is no better tranquil way to experience Portage Valley than from a raft, and many Alaskan locals float Portage Creek throughout the summer.  Enhance your trip with a guided tour through the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, Catered Lunch is also included with the add-on below.

This rafting tour has a 6-person minimum as it is often private per booking party. For smaller groups, we recommend our hallmark trip- the Spencer Glacier Float.

I love the Portage River. It’s a short float that packs a lot into a handful of river miles.  The many different glacier views are stunning, spawning salmon can be spotted at certain times of the summer, and there’s always beautiful wildflowers and a chance to see wildlife.  I’m always seeing something new.  – Liz Rocco- Chugach Adventures’ 2017 River Guide

Trip Minimum for Rafts:

This Portage Creek float has a 6-person minimum.  You have the option of purchasing empty seats to make the tour happen with fewer than six people.  Please contact our office directly at 907-783-1860 before booking if you’d like to book with less than six guests and we will let you know if we can accommodate your float trip.  Our Spencer Glacier Float Trip runs every day and has no minimums; this is our most popular rafting tour of the summer season.

Cancellation Policy for Day Tour Bookings:

Cancellations made 10 days or more in advance are 90% refundable.

Cancellations within 10 days are nonrefundable.

Weather – Trip Adjustments:

Water levels, wind, and other natural factors beyond our control may cause us to alter your trip for your safety & enjoyment.

For example on windy days, if you have booked a Kayak trip, we reserve the right to have you join us on a rafting trip. With our Spencer Glacier Float trip, the river portion is based on water levels in the river. We reserve the right to modify your rafting trip to a Spencer Glacier Float lake tour going closer to the glacier if the water levels are not sufficient for a safe/enjoyable trip down the Placer River.

Landing zone locations and the extent of our glacier hiking & moraine treks are dictated mostly by the weather of the day and the group’s activity level & speed.

Chugach Adventures does not cancel trips due to inclement weather, nor provide refunds when adventures are adjusted based on weather.
