Our Location
We are based out of Girdwood, located 40 miles (64 km) southeast of Anchorage, along scenic Turnagain Arm ocean. Girdwood is a small alpine ski village nestled amidst the Chugach Mountains and surrounded by hanging glaciers. Girdwood started as gold mining outpost at Crow Creek. Now you’ll find a bustling ski community of 2,000 with the luxurious Hotel Alyeska, Alyeska ski resort, ski shops, excellent restaurants, unique Alaskan gift shops and watering holes full of local color.
Chugach Adventures offers river trips on all three rivers at the head of the Turnagain Arm (Placer, Portage and Twenty Mile River) and is the closest rafting to Anchorage, Girdwood, Whittier, and Portage. Take the Glacier Discovery train to the Placer River Valley, fly an Alpine Air R44 helicopter to the headwater glacier of Twenty Mile River, or join us on a full tour of scenic Portage Valley.
