Scenic Raft Tours
Our most popular trip and a true Alaska hallmark — the Spencer Glacier Float puts you up close to stunning icebergs after a scenic ride on the Alaska Railroad’s Glacier Discovery Train. As the original guide service at Spencer Glacier since 2001, Chugach Adventures pioneered this iconic 7-mile float down the pristine Placer River, offering panoramic views of mountains and glaciers on one of the most scenic river trips in all of Alaska.
The Bears, Trains & Icebergs Tour is the ultimate Alaska day trip, departing from Anchorage or Girdwood. Start with a guided tour of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center — the state’s premier facility for injured and orphaned wildlife — before boarding the Glacier Discovery Train to Spencer Glacier. Float among breathtaking icebergs with sweeping views of the glacier and surrounding peaks, then return via train to Portage Station. Many guests tell us it’s the best single day they’ve had in Alaska.
For a more relaxed wilderness experience, the Portage Creek Float is a mellow Class I scenic journey past hanging glaciers and local wildlife — a favorite among Alaska locals throughout the summer. There’s no more peaceful way to take in the beauty of Portage Valley than from a raft. Enhance your trip with an optional guided tour of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, with a catered lunch included. Trip highlights include a mellow Class I float down Portage Creek, views of hanging glaciers and wildlife along the way, and an optional Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center add-on with catered lunch available for $100 per person.
